Why the first step is to stop using the device
When a file is deleted, it usually is not erased right away. The space it took up is just marked as free, and the photo often still sits there until something else gets saved over it. Every new photo you take, app you install, or file you save is a chance to overwrite the very thing we are trying to bring back.
So the moment you notice photos are missing, put the phone in airplane mode or set the computer aside and call us before doing anything else, including a factory reset or a reinstall, both of which can make recovery much harder or impossible.
What we check and what usually comes back
We look at where the photos lived: an internal drive, an SD card, a phone, or cloud storage like iCloud or Google Photos. Each one has its own trail. A recently deleted folder inside your Photos app is often the easiest recovery of all, while a photo removed months ago from a heavily used drive is a much longer shot.
- Checking the Recently Deleted or trash folder first, it is often still there
- Scanning a memory card or drive for recoverable files before anything is written to it again
- Checking whether the photos already synced to a cloud backup you forgot about
- A plain answer on what we found and what, if anything, could not be recovered
Being honest when photos cannot come back
We will not string you along or charge for a recovery attempt we do not believe will work. Some situations, like a drive that has been reformatted and used heavily since, or a phone that has already been reset, genuinely limit what is left to recover. When that is the case we tell you plainly, and we still help you set up a backup so it does not happen again.
Protecting your photos going forward
Once we know what happened, we set up an automatic backup, whether that is a cloud photo service, an external drive, or both, so a single deleted folder or a lost phone never means losing pictures for good again.
- Photos missing from a computer, phone, or memory card
- A device was dropped, will not turn on, or shows a blank screen
- You deleted something by accident and caught it right away
- You want backups set up so this cannot happen again
