What that noise usually means
Dust is the most common cause by far. It builds up on the fan blades and inside the vents over a year or two of normal use, and the fan has to spin faster and louder just to keep the machine cool. A thorough cleaning usually quiets things right down.
A failing fan sounds different, often a grinding, clicking, or rattling noise rather than just a rush of air. That fan is wearing out and needs to be replaced before it stops working altogether and the computer overheats.
Sometimes the fan is loud simply because the computer is working too hard, too many programs running at once, a background process stuck in a loop, or a computer that is just old and straining to keep up with modern software.

We open the case or laptop, look at the actual buildup and the fan itself, and check what the computer is doing when the noise happens. That tells us in a few minutes whether this is a cleaning, a fan replacement, or a slowdown fix, instead of guessing.
If the fan has been struggling for a while, we also check that your files are backed up before doing any repair work, just in case the strain has affected the hard drive too.
